O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a 2000 American comedy-drama film directed by the Coen brothers, loosely based on Homer’s “The Odyssey.” The story follows three convicts from a Mississippi chain gang as they escape and embark on a journey to find buried treasure.
The film, set in 1930’s Mississippi, is a humorous reimagining of the epic poem, incorporating elements like sirens, a cyclops, and a blind prophet. The characters are depicted as hapless, lovable figures who find themselves in a series of absurd and sometimes dangerous situations.
The film features the acting talents of George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, John Goodman, and Holly Hunter, and the vocal stylings of Dan Tyminski, who will be performing at the Pullo Center in November. This year marks the film’s 25th anniversary.
